The Grayson will introduce itself as New York City’s newest soccer-watching haven this weekend when New York City FC hosts the Red Bulls in the second installment of the Hudson River Derby.

Launched by Keith McKeown and Kenny Caulfield (both proprietors of Murray Hill’s Mercury Bar), The Grayson blends the sophistication of a gastropub with the spirit of a local sports bar, and promises to establish Manhattan’s Lower East Side as the de facto destination for soccer fans.

McKeown, a hard-tackling Irish veteran of New York City’s Cosmopolitan Soccer League, had flirted with the idea of opening a soccer-specific bar for some time, envisioning a locale frequented by passionate soccer jersey-wearing patrons.

“I’ve always been a massive supporter, so opening a place where people can see games with other fans in New York is a dream come true,” McKeown said as he opened the bar’s spacious multi-screen viewing room.

“We want the bar to become a hub for all fans. A place where you can support your team while enjoying good food and drink. And the Lower East Side was in need of a soccer bar.”

While The Grayson will make its official soccer debut on Sunday during the local derby, the bar is currently screening the Copa America and the Women’s World Cup on all 34 of its TV’s and 9 laser projectors.
